Britain’s defence industry is now a vibrant and expanding part of the national economy. A recent snapshot survey found that the sector currently employs approximately 150,000 highly-skilled people nationwide. Together, they help to generate a combined turnover of more than £23 billion, including export orders of around £6 billion. The same report notes that some three-quarters of UK security sector companies anticipate domestic and export market growth to Europe, North America and the Middle East. In a recent example, which confidentiality prevents us from naming, we produced and delivered a series of fuse-holders and their covers milled from solid aluminium blocks to accuracies of 0.001mm. Coating finishes also had to match precisely. Additionally, the third-party sub-contractor customer was only authorised to give final approval if components met drawing specifications precisely. We provided full material traceability and inspection reports.
